C is for Cromford

What a perfect evening to explore the village of Cromford, a village packed with industrial heritage within the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site.

The area is "...associated with Sir Richard Arkwright as the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution" and is home to the world's first water powered cotton mill and sits at the head of the Cromford Canal which ran 14.5 miles east to join the Erewash Canal at Langley Mill.

Scarthin Rock offers excellent views across the derwent to Willersley Castle. The picturesque village is centred around a substantial mill pond with a scattering of dwellings, shops, pubs and restaurants as well as the fabulously quirky Scarthin Books.
