Whiteley Woods runs adjacent to Bingham Park, and is one of a series of public parks and green spaces which make up the Porter Valley Parks.
The Porter Valley Parks run along Porter Brook, connecting the city centre to the Peak District National Park. Established between 1855 and 1938, they include Endcliffe Park, Bingham Park, Whiteley Woods, Forge Dam Park, and Porter Clough.
In 1897/98, T. Walter Hall donated land to Sheffield Corporation, followed by more land from Sheffield Town Trustees in 1913 and J.G. Graves Charitable Trust in 1932. The area features the Shepherd Wheel, a working water wheel and museum on Porter Brook.
