K is for Kinder Scout
With stunning weather forecast we set our alarm for 5am to head over to Edale in search of Ethels and Trigs.
We stopped the car on Winnats Pass, not to observed the myriad of photographers perched at Mam Tor's peak, but to sneak at look at the stunning sunrise of the 'Great Ridge' before parking up in a very quiet Edale.
We set off at 06:30, just us and the dogs, and ascended Grinslow Knoll from the Peninne Way for our first 'bag' of the day.
From here we headed west along the peaty edge of Edale Moor, passing Crowden Tower and Pym Chair to Edale Head and on to Kinder Low trig on Kinder Scout (Kinder Scout is the highest point in Derbyshire and the Peak District, and the only real mountain in the Peaks).
With the wind in our faces we struck out south to Brown Knoll (trig) then onwards to meet the Mam Tor/Chapel-En-Le-Frith footpath headed towards the 'Great Ridge'.
Our final stop was Lord's Seat, the highest point on the Great Ridge with views all down to Lose Hill and beyond. We descended to Winnats Pass heading north across the Vale of Edale and back to our start.
Excellent post-walk coffees were had from the lovely Penny Pot Cafe but more serious refreshments had been earned so we hopped in the car to Buxton and the brilliant Cellar Bar (Buxton Brewery).
We strolled around Buxton, had lunch and a pint then headed in the direction of home but, not before we enjoyed more refreshments at Thornbridge Taproom (they do a brilliant alcohol free brew).
A brilliant day had by all and well worth the early alarm call.
