We visited the fantastic Weston Park Museum with the sole purpose of checking out Pete McKee's new year long exhibition "a nostalgia-filled journey through his 1970s childhood."

"Playful, evocative, funny and moving, this interactive exhibition chronicles the artist’s formative years through over 90 McKee creations. Key moments and treasured memories are captured in a new series of paintings, prints and sculpture, as well as highlights from across his career. The artworks are complemented by displays celebrating the clothes, games, music and popular culture of the period, transporting visitors back through the decades."

It really is an absolute delight. There's so much warmth and humour in Pete's work, even when tackling difficult subjects like loss. Despite one of us being a southerner born at the end of the 70s, there are so many wonderful moments of familiarity, from childhood baths in the sink, hand me down clothes, or the seemingly endless school holidays with truly dreadful children's television.

You don't have to be a proud northerner in 40s/50s to get something from this exhibition. It's life laid out at its most mundane, exciting and technicolour best.
