Rollestone Wood is a Gleadless Valley Woodland Park and is predominantly beech, sweet chestnut, oak, and alder, birth and holly at the lower level. The Meers Brook runs through the woodland.

The Meers Brook, a significant tributary of the River Sheaf, originates in Gleadless and flows through Gleadless Valley and Meersbrook before being culverted under Heeley to join the Sheaf near Lowfield. Starting at a spring near Gleadless Townend, it flows through several woods, joined by streams from Hemsworth and Newfield Green. Historically, the brook formed the boundary between Northumbria and Mercia, and later between Yorkshire and Derbyshire. In 1957, a 0.75-mile culvert was built from Albert Road to the railway to prevent flooding and manage water from new housing. This culvert, designed to handle significant water flow, involved concrete pipes and rectangular castings, with modifications to the original structure to manage the river’s descent. The brook also passes by historical sites like Joseph Tyzack's Grade II listed saw works.
