J is for J G Graves Woodland Discovery Centre and Ecclesall Woods

With the sun shining we set off for a local stroll to explore Ecclesall Woods. There are three woods covering an area of around 350 acres, sitting between Ecclesall Road to the north and Abbeydale Road to the south.

The three woodlands come together at the bottom of Whirlow where you'll find the J G Graves Woodland Discovery Centre. Named after a philanthropist who gifted the woods to the city in the 1920s, the centre provides a wealth of resources for visitors to explore and learn about the local ecosystem. With interactive exhibits, guided walks, and educational programs, it serves as a hub for environmental awareness and appreciation. Surrounded by ancient woodlands rich in biodiversity, the centre inspires visitors of all ages to connect with nature, fostering a deeper understanding of the importance of conservation and sustainable living. There's also a cafe for the essential mid-morning coffee and cake!

Ecclesall Woods is a great example of why Sheffield is such a green city!
